I bet it felt really satisfying seeing your framework correlating with Gomez's theory. Some good insights there for me. I always feel quite mentally tired after a solo RPG session (part of the reason I have completely switched to rules light RPGs for solo gaming). I may be trying to juggle all three aspects of my game at the same time. I will definitely use this knowledge!

Really satisfying indeed!

"For me as a designer, it clarifies why certain procedures work and suggests where refinement might help."

Hard to imagine a greater compliment...this is exactly what I was going for. And, in turn, your thoughts about it are sparking new ideas for me. Thanks for the insight!

I just want to say that for those of us with aphantasia, there's no such thing as 30 seconds of pure visualization, because there is no visualization whatsoever. And that's where improv skills come into play. Act it out, at least vocally. I ham it up horribly, and it really overcomes the flatness that happens in spots.

Discovering my own partial aphantasia was the impetus for me to start solo RPGs, and really pivotal in the path that lead me to developing the metacognitive framework concept. Your comment makes me wonder how common this is in the space..?

I think any path to immersion is a valid one. While I still visualize (emphasis on _partial_ aphantasia), I also have to rely on imagining (or acting out) sounds, smells, and sensations to achieve immersion. What you're saying sounds just great to me, as long as it gets you immersed!

It really amuses my dog as well, which she assures me is the only thing that is important.
